Make sure to plan some time during your stay to visit our nearly 19,000 square feet of exhibit space that chronicles the 95-year history of the Crispus Attucks Association of York.
Among the stories told in the History & Culture Center are some of the following:
- York Heritage Stories: personal or family stories that highlight life in York.
- Family Migration to York: families’ journeys to York, the challenges they faced, and the triumphs they achieved.
- Segregation in York: first-hand accounts or reflections on the era of segregation in York, and the resilience of the community during these times.
- York Race Riots: personal experiences or knowledge of the race riots in York, shedding light on this pivotal moment in our local history.
- Historical York Artifacts: photographs, documents, or other artifacts that connect CAY to York’s past.
- CAY’s Contributions to the Larger York Community: telling CAY’s stories and detailing how they came to be a 4-block campus.
- Cultural Celebrations: documenting and preserving York’s Black community through the arts.
You will see and hear these stories in the words and voices of people who lived through the events. You might even see yourself or a friend or family member in these stories.
