We Want to Hear Your Story

Our mission is to bring the rich heritage of York to life in a way that resonates with everyone. And that’s where you come in. We invite you to share your personal experiences and stories about York’s African American heritage to help us capture the rich tapestry of our community’s history. Your story could be featured in our upcoming Crispus Attucks York History & Culture Center. (CAY HCC) exhibits where we showcase the voices and experiences that shape our community’s identity.

We are particularly interested in stories about:

  • Segregation in York
  • York Race Riots
  • Historical York Artifacts

Your contributions will help preserve the history and culture of York for future generations.

Curate Your Collection

At the Crispus Attucks York History & Culture Center. (CAY HCC), we offer a unique opportunity for participants to cultivate their own personal collections of York’s rich history. Through hands-on workshops, interactive exhibits, and guided programs, you can explore York’s African American heritage and begin assembling your own collection of historical artifacts, stories, and cultural memories. Whether you’re passionate about local history or simply curious to learn more, we provide the resources and expertise to help you discover and preserve the stories that matter most to you.

Our “Cultivate Your Collection” initiative encourages participants to engage with York’s past in a personal and meaningful way. You’ll have the chance to gather oral histories, document family traditions, and even uncover hidden treasures within your community. From photographs and letters to artifacts that reflect York’s cultural and social history, you can create a collection that not only represents your own heritage but also contributes to the broader narrative of York’s African American community. Our center provides the tools to archive, share, and celebrate these important pieces of history.

Join us at CAY HCC and start building a collection that tells your story and adds to the growing tapestry of York’s history. By participating, you help ensure that future generations can learn from and appreciate the diverse experiences and cultural contributions of York’s African American community.
